    Camden Station's lower level houses the Babe Ruth Museum's state-of-the-art archives and research library named for the late Baltimore News American sports editor and Baltimore Sun columnist, John Steadman. For more than five decades Steadman crafted some of the region's most inspired and insightful sport commentary.

    The John. F. Steadman Research Center holdings include manuscript collections, artifacts, drawings, periodicals, paper ephemera, as well as audio and video tapes and motion picture films. The library's image collection includes photographic prints, slides, transparencies, and glass plate and film negatives, as well as lithographs, paintings and other fine art.

    The library is a private research facility and appointments are required. Research fees do apply.

Featured Collections:

The John F. Steadman Collection
    This collection, comprised mostly of ephemera, includes sports books dating back to the early 1900s, programs, press packets, personal game notes and columns from Steadman's four decades of sports coverage. Also included in the collection are audio tapes from Steadman's radio show which aired on Hearst station WBAL-Radio in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.

Leroy Merriken Collection
    Baltimore Sun photographer Leroy Merriken was Baltimore's leading sports photographer in the 1920s, '30s, '40s and '50s. His collection of negatives includes rare images of Babe Ruth, the International League Orioles and the modern Orioles.

James Bready Collection
   
This collection features hard-to-find baseball and football books as well as 481 rare International League and moden Oriole photographs.

Areas of Specialty: Memorial Stadium, The Baltimore Colts and the Baltimore Colts Band, the Baltimore Ravens and the Marching Ravens.

Donations:
    The Babe Ruth Museum collects game-used equipment and ephemera related to Babe Ruth, the Baltimore Orioles, the Baltimore Colts and Ravens, Johnny Unitas, the Baltimore Blast, Memorial Stadium and other sports entities in the state of Maryland.

Our collection of artifacts, photographs and archival material is a result of generous donations by athletes, teams, collectors and fans.

The Babe Ruth Museum welcomes donations of items related to our mission. For more information please contact one of our curators.

Appraisals:
    Sports Collectibles vary in type and value. The Babe Ruth Museum staff, in accordance with state and federal tax laws, are prohibited from providing financial values for artifacts and ephemera. Only a licensed appraiser can provide this information.

    Many books specializing in sports collectibles are available at bookstores and libraries.
