Baseball Historian Richard D’Ambrisi will Discuss 19th Century Baseball Equipment, Rules of the Game and More
Baltimore, MD – Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards today announced that it will host a program with baseball historian Richard "Pastime" D'Ambrisi on Saturday, June 27th at 1:00 p.m. that will discuss base ball (spelled two words until 1890s) from the 1800s and showcase equipment from the era, as well as profile the early rules of the game.
D’Ambrisi has developed an extensive display of reproduction materials and images that tell the story of the evolution of baseball in America. As part of the program, he will discuss the evolution of baseball in the 1800s and display baseball equipment from that period. The program is free with paid admission to the Museum.
The program will provide a hands on display of authentically reproduced uniforms, equipment, documents, books and other accessories used by a mid-19th century base ball player. D’ Ambrisi will explore the history of the development of the sport in Maryland and across America, the Doubleday Myth of “Who Invented Base Ball?,” the 1791 Pittsfield Baseball Law and much more.
A noted baseball historian, D’Ambrisi has traveled to many vintage baseball tournaments and conferences throughout the northeast, offering his expertise on different aspects of the early history of America’s national game. He has been involved with the vintage baseball movement for over sixteen years and is a member of the Vintage Base Ball Association, the Society for American Baseball Research, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the National Association for Interpretation. Richard is the team historian and a founding member of the Chesapeake & Potomac 1860s vintage baseball club in Maryland, was Chairman of the 2008 Sideline Interpretation Committee and 2008 interim Historian for the Vintage Base Ball Association.
